VLJ & Regional A/C Stimulate Turbofan Market
PARIS [June 13, 2005] ―
The Turbofan and Turbojet Aviation Engine market is projected to generate
$165.9 billion in revenue during the 2005-2014 period with the production of
53,514 engines, according to Forecast International’s “Turbofan and Turbojet
Aviation Engine Market: 2005-2014.”
“The business
jet engine market is continuing its pattern of growth, buoyed by the pending
arrival of the new Very Light Jets from Eclipse, Cessna, and Adam,” said Aero
Gas Turbine Analyst Will Alibrandi, author of the study. “Pratt & Whitney
will be the major benefactor of this new class of aircraft by providing its
PW600 series turbofan”
These
engines, lumped into the 0-70 seat aircraft segment, will see a 50 percent
increase in production over the forecast period – from 1,997 in 2005 to 3,110
in 2014.
Production of engines for 71-110
seat aircraft is also forecast to increase by 50 percent, owing to the current
trend for larger-capacity regional jets. With scope clause restrictions being
eased by many regional carriers, the 70-, 90- and 110-seat regional jets are
becoming more popular, and these aircraft (Bombardier’s CRJ700/900 and
Embraer’s 170/190) are powered exclusively by GE’s CF34 turbofan series. A
total of 232 engines are forecast to be produced in 2005, and annual totals
increase steadily to 348 in 2014.
The 111+ seat segment is
anticipated to decline over the forecast period, from the 1,686 engines
forecast to be produced in 2005 to 1,271 engines in 2014. This is in spite of
the introduction of two new transport aircraft; Boeing’s new 787 and Airbus’
A380.
The market for turbofan engines will be heavily weighted by
demand for use on civilian aircraft over the forecast period. More than 83
percent of the turbofan engines to be produced will be destined for civilian
aircraft, with the remaining 17 percent headed for application on military
aircraft.
