MOSCOW - In a recent press release, Rostec confirmed that a new delivery of Mi-8 helicopters would soon arrive in Belarus. The batch of Mi-8MTV-5s was initially supposed to be transferred in May 2017, but, according to Rostec, the helicopters are ahead of schedule.
The press release quoted Director General of Russian Helicopters Andrei Boginsky as saying, "Belarus has always been and remains an important strategic partner for us. We are glad we will be able to finish the contract on delivering 12 helicopters for the Belarusian Defense Ministry ahead of schedule. The final lot was initially supposed to be delivered in May 2017, however, the Kazan helicopter factory is ready to send the helicopters on their way in April."
Kazan helicopter factory, which is manufacturing the helicopters, is a subsidiary of Russian Helicopters.
A Belarusian delegation recently visited the Kazan plant to inspect progress on the construction of the helicopters.
The first batch of helicopters was handed over last year. Belarus received six Mi-8s in that batch and will receive another six in the second batch.
