MOSCOW - As part of a long-term project, Russia will develop a new short-range air-defense system for its ground forces, according to the Russian Army Commander-in-Chief. The system might be supplied by 2030.
Tass News Agency quoted Commander-in-Chief Colonel General Oleg Salyukov as saying, "We will discuss tasks at a military and technical conference in Izhevsk for the development of an advanced short-range anti-aircraft missile complex and its place in troops’ air defense in 2030-2035."
At present, the military is creating a list of operational requirements for the future missile system.
Military officials will also discuss missile systems currently in service while meeting with representatives of the Kupol electromechanical factory in Izhevsk.
Currently, Russia's ground forces operate Tor-M2 systems as their basic short-range air-defense platform.
