EACH INCARNATION OF THE SQQ-89(V) SURFACE ASW COMBAT SYSTEM IS BETTER THAN THE LAST
NEWTOWN, Conn. - The SQQ-89(V) Surface ASW Combat System continues evolving into something better and stronger. The latest variant is the SQQ-89A(V)15, which is designed to search for, detect, classify, localize, and track undersea contacts. This version also has the capability to engage and evade submarines, mine-like objects, and torpedo threats.
Produced by Lockheed Martin, the SQQ-89A(V)15 is currently undergoing R&D for enhancements using rapid insertion technology. Much of the technology in development has a focus on sensors and data processing, which in turn are being backfitted to existing systems aboard ships.
All backfits for the CG-47 Ticonderoga class cruisers were completed in 2014. Backfits to existing DDG-51 Arleigh Burke class destroyers are expected to be completed by the end of 2017.
