LONDON - The United Kingdom plans to increase the size of its unmanned aircraft fleet and will purchase a new system. The British government will acquire the General Atomics Certifiable Predator B unmanned air vehicle (UAV), which will meet the United Kingdom's Protector UAV requirement.

This new UAV will fly for nearly twice as long, carrying more weapons and sensors. The UAV be able to fly in bad weather and survive ice, lightning and bird strikes.

The United Kingdom signed a GBP415 million contract to buy 20 new UAVs to replace its existing fleet of 10 MQ-9 Reapers.
