OSHKOSH, Wis. - Blackhawk Modifications is adding a new engine upgrade option for Cessna 208A Caravan and 208B Grand Caravan aircraft. The company is certifying the 867 horsepower PT6A-140 engine as a direct aftermarket replacement for the standard PT6A-114 (600 horsepower) or the PT6A-114A (675 horsepower) in those aircraft. Operators upgrading to the new engine can expect significant performance improvements, even in adverse weather conditions.
Blackhawk already offers the 850 horsepower PT6A-42A in 208A/B aircraft as a higher-power option, in an upgrade known as Blackhawk XP42A.
The PT6A-42A is optimized for flight over 6,000 feet, on hot days, with heavy loads. The PT6A-140 is a less expensive alternative for aircraft routinely operating at lower altitudes.
