RUSHYDRO LAUNCHES A RENOVATED HYDROPOWER UNIT, MANUFACTURED BY POWER MACHINES, AT VOLZHSKAYA HPP
MOSCOW - Hydropower unit 12 has been launched after renovation at Volzhskaya HPP. The HPP specialists and contractors replaced its hydro generator, auxiliaries, control and instrumentation system, and also a thyristor excitation system. The equipment has been renovated in line with RusHydro's Comprehensive Renovation Program. The generator of hydropower unit 12 was renovated under the long-term contract signed between RusHydro and Power Machines in 2011. As the General Contractor, Power Machines is also responsible for the removal and installation of equipment, and for installation supervision and pre-commissioning. Thirteen hydro turbines and 3 generators out of 22 have been so far replaced. The remaining hydropower units of Volzhskaya HPP are scheduled to be renovated by 2021. The Volzhskaya HPP Comprehensive Renovation Program is expected to last until 2025. A total of 58.4 billion roubles ($958.5 million) is planned to be spent for its implementation. In addition to the renovation of hydropower units, the Comprehensive Renovation Program includes the renewal of automatic control systems for hydropower units and 500-kV outdoor switchgear equipment; renovation of a 220-kV outdoor switchgear; and replacement of 220 and 500 kV power transformers, spillway gate and other hydromechanical equipment.
The Comprehensive Renovation Program will improve the reliability and performance of the equipment, and will also have increased the installed capacity of Volzhskaya HPP by 147 MW by the end of 2025 (as compared to the end of 2011, when the Comprehensive Renovation Program implementation began).
