PARIS AIR SHOW - Denel Aviation and Russia's Oboronprom signed an agreement on June 18 to expand the services offered by the Mi-8/17 helicopter service center at Denel's Kempton Park facilities.
The agreement, signed at the Paris Air Show, includes complete overhauls and upgrades of both commercial and military Mi-8/17 helicopters, in addition to providing maintenance services.
Denel began discussing the establishment of the maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) facility in 2009 and formally registered the project in October 2011. During the Africa Aerospace and Defense (AAD) exhibition in September 2012, Denel Aviation and Oboronprom signed a partnership agreement (Russian Helicopters is an Oboronprom subsidiary).
On March 26, Denel and Russian Helicopters opened the first servicing and repair facility for Russian helicopters on the African continent. Denel Aviation is now the only company accredited to perform MRO work on Russian helicopters in Africa.
