SEOUL - South Korea wants to improve its defenses against Pyongyang's long-range artillery using an approach system is similar to Israel's Iron Dome air defense system.
South Korea's Agency for Defense Development (ADD) is working to develop technology for a "hit to kill" system. Seoul had considered purchasing Iron Dome, but concluded the system was not suitable for use on the Korean peninsula.
North Korea has some 14,100 artillery pieces including 5,500 multiple rocket launchers.
