WELLINGTON - The New Zealand government announced on May 21 plans for an infusion of NZD264 million ($193 million) in operations funding for the New Zealand Defense Force (NZDF) across the next four years. The New Zealand Defense Ministry has already begun a process of re-allocating funds derived from savings via corporate reforms in the MoD offices. These funds go towards increasing the New Zealand Defense Force' personnel numbers while maintaining and improving its mix of equipment capabilities, the "tip of the spear" aspect of the New Zealand Defense Force (NZDF).
The New Zealand government has opted to support an effort to train the Iraqi Security Forces through a two-year Building Partner Capacity mission, which it will provide NZD56.3 million ($41.2 million) towards.
In addition, the fiscal year 2015 budget will include NZD46.5 million ($34.1 million) in fresh operational funding for the NZDF, as well as NZD106 million ($77.7 million) in re-allocated capital for new equipment aimed at enhancing soldier safety.
