MOSCOW - France's Saint-Nazaire shipyard has floated out the second Mistral-class amphibious assault ship for the Russian Navy.
Under the terms of the $1.6 billion deal signed in June 2011, the second vessel in Russia's Vladivostok class, named the Sevastopol, is slated for delivery in November 2015. A ceremony for the delivery of the first vessel was scheduled for November 14 but has yet to take place. The Vladivostok is now expected to enter service before the end of this year.
The vessels will be equipped with Kamov Ka-52K Hokum B attack helicopters. The vessels will also be modified to include extra armament, including anti-air systems and large caliber automatic weapon stations.
