BEIJING - China is working on a new anti-armor missile system. The new HJ-12 will have a range of 4 kilometers and Chinese officials say its performance capability will be comparable to those offered by Russia and the United States.

The People's Liberation Army (PLA) ground force will have another new state-of-the-art weapon in its arsenal-the HJ-12 anti-tank missile, which can destroy tanks at a distance of more than 4 km. The HJ-12 features fire-and-forget capability and can be fired within buildings and bunkers.

Chinese officials expect the HJ-12 to win NORINCO a larger share of the international anti-armor missile system market. The HJ-12 is much more advanced than the anti-armor missiles currently used by the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) ground force.

The global market for anti-armor missile systems is currently dominated by Western and Russian products.
