MOSCOW - The Russian Navy intends to re-purpose their Kamov Ka-52K Hokum B helicopters.
The helicopters are being developed by Kamov and were intended to be used on the Navy's Mistral-class warships. However, now that Paris has cancelled the delivery of the two Mistral helicopter carriers, the Navy has had to make other plans for the aircraft, says Kamov's general designer, Sergei Mikheev.
In August 2014, the Navy ordered 32 Ka-52Ks; each Mistral vessel can carry 16.
According to Mikheev, the Navy did not have a problem re-purposing the Ka-52Ks since can be used on nearly any Russian vessel.
The Ka-52 is a next-generation, reconnaissance, combat, and tandem-seat version of the Ka-50 Hokum.
