BRASILIA, Brazil - The Brazilian Air Force has signed a logistical support contract with Swedish company, Saab, for the Air Force's future fleet of 36 Gripen NG fighter jets. The contract is valued at SEK548.47 million ($70.81 million). The agreement will include maintenance services and expert technical support for the aircraft, its internal components, and related maintenance equipment. Brazilian companies will provide support.
The contract will take effect in 2021 and run through 2026.
In December 2013, Brazil selected the Gripen NG as the winner of its Project FX-2 fighter procurement program. The Gripen was selected over the Dassault Rafale and Boeing's F/A-18E/F Super Hornet. The procurement includes 28 single-seat and eight two-seat Gripen NG aircraft. Gripen NG deliveries to the Brazilian Air Force will begin in 2019 and conclude in 2024.
