SAO PAULO, Brazil - The Brazilian Army is considering its options for a new helicopter platform. The two options currently under consideration are the Boeing CH-47 Chinook and the OH-58D Kiowa Warrior from Bell.
In April 2014, Boeing announced an offer to deliver a batch of reconditioned CH-47 Chinook helicopters to Brazil. The Chinooks would be used for transport and logistics missions, particularly in the Amazon region. According to sources, the offer included 12 aircraft of the CH-47D variant.
However, the Brazilian Army is also interested in acquiring Bell Helicopter OH-58D Kiowa Warriors that were used in Afghanistan and are being demobilized. The helicopters have recently been modernized and are reportedly being offered at very reasonable prices.
