SAN SALVADOR - The El Salvadorian Ministry of Defense will reduce its budget for 2015 by just over a million dollars.

The Ministry of Finance has allocated $1.1 million less for defense spending in 2015 compared spending for 2014. The ministry has set the defense budget for FY15 at $148.4 million; the FY14 budget currently stands at $149.5 million.

There have been gradual increases year over year since the budget was expressed in U.S. dollars in 2002. However, defense spending is now showing a downward trend after reaching a high of $163.3 million in 2013.

Investments within the 2015 budget have not been made public by the Finance Ministry.
