LIMA, Peru - The Peruvian Interior Ministry has announced plans to purchase 10,555 computers for the National Police. The new machines will be distributed to units located in the metropolitan areas of Lima and Callao, as well as in provinces nationwide.
Deputy Minister of Institutional Management, Leoncio Delgado Uribe, said the goal is to replace the computers that are obsolete and provide the districts with a nationwide police broadband service in order to access information in real-time. Each station will have at least one modern computer, the deputy said.
The acquisition will be made in three stages through an agreement the Procurement Supervisory Agency (OSCE). The first batch of 1,696 computers is expected to arrive in Peru in November. They will be assigned to units with emergency requirements. The second and third batches will consist of 2,742 and 6,117 computers, respectively. Delivery dates for those batches have yet to be announced.
The Interior Ministry also plans to purchase 2,359 printers when the third batch of computers is ordered through the OSCE.
Deputy Delgado also said that the ministry plans to acquire a Tetra communication system to help integrate information from various government agencies.
