U.K. ORDERS TOMAHAWK MISSILES, U.S. INCREASES ITS SPENDING

WASHINGTON - The United States is doubling its order for new Raytheon Tomahawk cruise missiles, while the United Kingdom has confirmed that it has ordered 65 new Tomahawk cruise missiles for the Royal Navy.

The U.S. Congress has added $82 million to the FY2015 U.S. defense budget request. The Pentagon had planned to purchase 100 Tomahawk missiles. Now, this number will increase to 196 missiles. Raytheon has delivered more than 3,000 Tomahawk Block IVs to the U.S. Navy.

The U.S. has fired 2,300 Tomahawks in combat over its history. Raytheon began producing the Block IV line of Tomahawks in 2004.
