SAN SALVADOR, El Salvador - Thales, along with Mexican company Telmex, will install a network of 7,000 cameras in the Federal District of Mexico (D.F.). The installation is part of Mexico's "Safe City" initiative in the capital city.
Telmex has selected Thales to provide the cameras as well as emergency buttons and speaker systems. The network will allow the government to monitor the streets of Mexico City and deploy police and mobile command centers during emergency situations and major events. The mobile centers will be able to communicate with a central command while the speaker systems will be used to maintain public order.
This is not the first network that the French company has installed in Mexico. The Mexico City government issued its first contract to Thales back in 2009 for the installation of 8,000 cameras in the D.F.
Telmex is responsible for the program's implementation. So far, the Mexican telecom group has established a full C4I network (Command, Control, Communications, Computers, and Intelligence) and new fiber optic network dedicated to the "Safe City" program.
