FAST RESPONSE CUTTER DELIVERED TO U.S. COAST GUARD
KEY WEST, Fla. - The U.S. Coast Guard accepted delivery of the 11th Sentinel-class fast response cutter, William Trump, in Key West, Florida, November 25. William Trump is the fifth of six FRCs to be based in Key West. Its commissioning is scheduled for January 2015. The other six FRCs are based in Miami.
The FRC is designed for missions including drug and migrant interdiction; search and rescue; ports, waterways and coastal security; law enforcement; and defense readiness. Each FRC is 154 feet long with a top speed of more than 28 knots and features advanced command, control, communications, computers, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance systems to share information with other Coast Guard assets and with other defense and law enforcement agencies. The ship is named after William Trump, who earned a Silver Star for heroism during the 1944 D-Day invasion of Normandy. The Coast Guard is acquiring 58 FRCs to replace the 110-foot Island-class patrol boats, which entered service in the 1980s. Thirty FRCs have been ordered so far.
