MOSCOW - Russia's T-50 PAKFA fifth-generation fighter jet will be armed with a modernized 9A1-4071K cannon.
The Russian arms and technology holding company, Rostec, says that the fighter will begin flight tests with the new onboard cannon later this year.
A modernized version of the 9A1-4071K cannon has already been tested on the Su-27SM fighter. According to Rostec, development work to incorporate the cannon into the PAK FA is already underway.
Serial production of the PAK FA is expected to begin in 2016. The T-50 will eventually form the core of Russia's future fighter fleet with current plans calling for a total of 60 to be acquired.
