NEWTOWN, Conn. - Dynamit Nobel Defence GmbH maintains expectations for new export sales and Bundeswehr follow-on procurement of the Panzerfaust 3. However, with the completion of the Dutch and Italian orders last year, there are currently insufficient orders to maintain the serial production line.
In December 2012, open-source reporting indicated that the Peruvian Army planned to buy a variety of new anti-tank weapons, including the Panzerfaust 3. The Peruvian Army reportedly appropriated $64.4 million for the purchase of individual anti-tank weapons. However, we still have no evidence of actual procurement contracts being executed, and there are no indications of how the Peruvian Army intends to allocate the funding among various anti-tank weapon systems.
In March 2014, the Uruguayan Army canceled its tender for new shoulder-fired anti-tank weapons after months of haggling. By late 2013, Uruguay had narrowed the competition to the RPG-7V2 and the Panzerfaust 3.
The tender was originally for 150 launchers and 700 rounds of munitions. The Uruguayan Army subsequently reduced the tender to 75 launchers and 350 rounds.
While the Forecast International Weapons Group believes the Panzerfaust 3 will maintain at least some level of production in the short term, the dominance of other players will continue to hinder sales. Despite the proven effectiveness of the Panzerfaust 3, Dynamit Nobel will remain a minor player in this market segment.
