NEWTOWN, Conn. - Oman is interested in acquiring Avenger mobile air defense systems as part of its modernization program. The U.S. Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) notified Congress in October 2011 of the potential sale of 18 Avenger fire units mounted on High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicles (HMMWVs). This deal might finally be ready to move ahead.
Under this deal, the U.S. also offered 266 FIM-92 Stinger-RMP (Reprogrammable Micro-Processor) Block 1 surface-to-air missiles, 6 Stinger Block 1 Production Verification Flight Test missiles, and 24 Captive Flight Trainers. In addition, Oman could receive 290 AIM-120C-7 Surface-Launched Advanced Medium-Range Air-to-Air Missiles (SLAMRAAMs) and 6 Guidance Sections. The total value of this deal is $1.248 billion.
The contractors involved in this deal are Raytheon Missile Systems of Tucson, Arizona, and Boeing of Huntsville, Alabama.
