TRIPOLI - The Libyan government wants to import additional weapons to deal with group fighting for control of the country. The internationally recognized government in Libya wants the United Nations to authorize it to import weapons.

Libya has been under an arms embargo since the civil war that ousted the regime of Colonel Muammar Gaddafi four years ago. The current Libyan government is based in Tobruk. This government is requesting 150 tanks, over 20 combat aircraft, 7 attack helicopters, thousands of assault rifles, missile launchers and ammunition.

The countries contacted for such imports are Ukraine, Serbia and the Czech Republic.
