WARSAW - Poland will seek to acquire a short-range air defense (SHOARD) system. The Narew system will be capable of engaging aircraft and missiles. Poland could select a new surface-to-air missile (SAM) in 2016. The technical dialogue will open in November this year.

Potential competitors for this contract include: Kongsberg NASAMS; MBDA Mica VL; Israeli Spyder and Iron Dome systems; and the German IRIS-T. Poland is looking to existing systems in order to meet its requirements in a short period of time. Cooperation between Polish defense firms and a foreign supplier may be desired.
