BUDAPEST - Hungary is moving forwards with its military modernization program. Part of this effort includes the upgrading of the nation's air defense systems.

The Hungarian Ministry of Defense (MoD) has signed an agreement with MBDA France for the upgrading of its Mistral man-portable surface-to-air missile (SAM) systems. The Mistral M2 SAM is currently in service with the Hungarian military. The Mistral entered Hungarian service in 1997. These systems will be upgraded to M3 status.

The upgrade work will take place during the period of 2016-2018.
