REPORTS UKRAINE FIRES BALLISTIC MISSILE AT SEPARATISTS
Wednesday, July 30, 2014
WASHINGTON - According to media reports, the Ukrainian government has used a theater ballistic missile against separatists operating in eastern Ukraine. The suspected missile is the SS-21 Scarab (Tochka-U), a theater ballistic missile system with a range of 80 kilometers. The missile carried a conventional warhead.

The Tochka missile was fired on July 29 towards the Saur-Mohyla area of eastern Ukraine. The target was a strategic hill that has seen heavy fighting between separatists and Ukrainian security forces.

Other reports from July 29 claim the Ukrainian government had used short-range ballistic missiles against the separatists over the previous two days. The Ukrainian Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin said his country has short-range missiles, but denied that the military fired any.

Russia continues to provide weapons and other support to separatist forces.
