TRITON UAV PROGRAM COSTS JUMPS 25 PERCENT

WASHINGTON - The cost of the U.S. Navy's MQ-4 Triton unmanned air vehicle (UAV) has jumped 25 percent. This program will cost the U.S. Navy an additional $720 million. Northrop Grumman is developing the Triton UAV.

The Triton UAV will cost the U.S. Navy around $3.9 billion to develop. The start of production and deployment of the Triton UAV is moving to the right. These dates have slipped more than two years. A report mentioned software development delays.

The program involves the procurement of some 70 air vehicles by the U.S. Navy. Total program cost will reach $15.3 billion.

The MQ-4 Triton is based on Northrop Grumman's RQ-4 Global Hawk high-altitude, long-endurance unmanned air vehicle.
