SAHARANPUR - India is using unmanned air vehicles (UAVs) to support police trying to control sectarian rioting in Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh. Leaders of the Congress Party and the Bharatiya Janata Party, (BJP) are accusing each other instigating the mobs.

Sikh and Muslim mobs have battled across the city for three days. The fighting began over a small plot of land on which the Sikhs planned to build, but Muslims claimed the land belonged to the local mosque. The government has moved over 2,000 paramilitary police into the area. Local police are accused of failing to move quickly to stop the rioting.

The Indian government is making greater use of unmanned aircraft to support anti-crime and anti-terrorism campaigns.
