NEWTOWN, Conn. - The Royal Thai Air Force (RTAF) is looking to obtain funding from the Ministry of Defense to continue development of its own unmanned air vehicle system. Thailand launched the Tiger Shark tactical UAV program in 2010. The Royal Thai Air Force Academy is working with the ATAF Research and Development Center.
Thailand is already using UAVs to monitor its Kaeng Krachan National Park in Phetchaburi. This is the largest national park in Thailand and is located along the border area with Myanmar.
Indonesia is also working on UAVs. The Research and Technology Application Agency (BPPT) is working with Dirgantara Indonesia and LEN Industri, both state-owned companies, to develop and manufacture a UAV system. This program began in 2004.
