MADRID - Brazil has signed a contract with Airbus Defense and Space for the acquisition of three Airbus C295 search and rescue (SAR) aircraft.

The three aircraft will progressively be delivered to the Brazilian Air Force (FAB) beginning at the end of 2014. The agreement also includes a five-year Full In Service Support (FISS) contract.

The Brazilian Air Force already operates a fleet of 12 transport-configured C295s (designated C-105 Amazonas in Brazilian service). The existing fleet was procured between October 2006 and September 2007.

The Air Force had hoped to acquire a second batch of eight Amazonas; four in the transport version and four in the SC-105 SAR configuration.
