SAO PAULO, Brazil - Honduran President Juan Orlando Hernández and the Brazilian ambassador to Honduras, Zenik Krawctschuk, have announced a decision to remodel the Honduran Air Force's fleet of T-27 (EMB-312) Tucano aircraft. The possibility of acquiring a batch of A-29 Super Tucanos is also on the table, they said.

The Honduran Air Force acquired 12 T-27 Tucanos from Brazilian manufacturer, Embraer, between July 1984 and June 1986. The aircraft are used for counterinsurgency operations and to combat drug trafficking.

The retrofit and modernization program will cover 21 aircraft and cost about $2.5 million per aircraft. The Brazilian Air Force will donate several of their old T-27s currently in storage to be included in the program. Work will be performed either in Palmerola, Honduras, at EDS in Brazil, or at CIAC in Colombia.
