AMSTERDAM - Thales said at the ATC Global 2010 Exhibition & Conference that it had signed an agreement in late December 2009 with the Estonian ANS (EANS) for the complete upgrade of the Air Traffic Management (ATM) system for the Tallinn Air Traffic Control (ATC) Center.
Under this agreement, the current system will be upgraded to the latest EUROCAT-E version. Similar systems are in operation in NEAP (North European ANS Provider) states (Finland, Sweden, Denmark). A common platform makes it possible to share future development costs. A single platform facilitates system development required within the framework of the Single European Sky (SES) program.
The engineering, system installation, testing, and training of users will take about two years and the modernized system is expected to be in use by February 2012.
The system currently in use in Estonia, a Thales EUROCAT 2000, has been operational since 2002. The system upgrade, which is necessary to address the growing number of regulations required by the European Commission, will also bring economic benefits. Thales states that it will reduce the costs of future developments and adding new functionalities.
